beim konzert in Bahrain kam es zu ausschreitungen!

Tiesto Bahrain No Show Riot

Violence erupted at a Tiesto concert in Bahrain last week as the world's most popular trance DJ failed to turn up at the desert gig. Elements of the 3,000 strong crowd became impatient some two hours after Tiesto was due to start, throwing bottles, storming the stage and stealing speakers and audio equipment as the party descended into a riot.

Event organisers Prime Time Entertainment subsequently accused Tiesto of refusing to accept part payment in local currency and being disappointed that just 3,000 tickets had been sold while Tiesto claimed he wasn't paid but still wanted to play.

Both agreed, however, that Tiesto remained sitting in his Diplomat Radisson SAS Hotel in Bahrain's city centre throughout the night, which Tiesto apologized for in a statement posted on his site.

"Dear fans, I am very sorry for what happened at the Marina Club in Bahrain last Wednesday," he admitted.

"I still wanted to play at the party, so I was waiting for somebody to pick me up from the hotel and bring me to the venue. At 2 a.m., still nobody had arrived and we heard that police was already on the way to the venue. At that moment, I had no other choice than to stay in my hotel room," he said.

"Again, I am very sorry for what happened and I will definitely try to find a way to make it up with all my fans who bought tickets for the show," he promised.

Bahrain's best known DJ Karim Miknas, who owns and runs underground techno club Likwid, played warm-up at the gig until 12.30, leaving left promptly soon after 1.30am when the crowd began hurling glass bottles on stage.

"By the time we were near the Diplomat Hotel, audience members were already on their way to Tiesto's hotel," Karim told local reporters, "American service men, groups of young Bahrainis, high school kids, girls, boys, dogs, cats; they were all on their way to kill Tiesto. Well, at least to give him an ass kicking," he chuckled (Military police surrounding the hotel prevented fans from gaining access).

Chatting to Skrufff, Karim described having to spin for two extra hours beyond his agreed 9-11pm slot before handing over to local DJ Jackson. Soon after, he decided to leave when a water bottle hit Jackson 'square on the forehead' sparking the violence that finished the night.

"I wasn't frightened at all by what happened, I did nothing wrong and on the contrary, I saved the f**king day." Karim insisted. "Otherwise they'd have had to stop the party at 11pm and there would have been even more trouble. But when the crowd started throwing glass bottles, I grabbed my record bag and left."

Karim also suggested the incident has tarnished Tiesto's reputation, with many local trance fans remaining upset.

"The kids here are angry at Tiesto as well as the promoter, I think Tiesto needs to leave it for a while then come back to Bahrain with a much stronger promoter," he argued.

"I'm sad that so many young people were so ripped off, so disappointed," Karim added, "The local promoter was wrong but so was Tiesto; shame on them all for not finding a middle ground."

In happier news for Tiesto, a Lebanese newsletter eulogized the trance icon for daring to spin in Beirut, also last week, to a (happy) crowd of 20,000 revellers.

"Tiesto is a Dutch DJ who has not only become, albeit accidentally, a symbol of Lebanese defiance but a catalyst for rebellion against the ever tense political climate that has been engulfing this once-thriving Middle East destination," Travel Industry Review.com reported.

"The Dutch DJ, amid Lebanon's fragile political climate and apparent death threats, was in Lebanon last week. His concert drew in the largest crowd in Lebanon's history," they added.

hab hier noch eine zweite version von der geschichte:

BAHRAIN CANCELLATION
Dear fans, I am very sorry for what happened at the Marina Club in Bahrain last Wednesday. Allow me to explain to you what really took place.

The promoter disappeared after 1 a.m. with the DJ fee and the money everybody had paid for their tickets.

I still wanted to play at the party, so I was waiting for somebody to pick me up from the hotel and bring me to the venue. At 2 a.m., still nobody had arrived and we heard that police was already on the way to the venue. At that moment, I had no other choice than to stay in my hotel room.

The promoter tried to escape Bahrain, but luckily he got caught near the Saudi Arabian border. He is in jail at this moment.

Again, I am very sorry for what happened and I will definitely try to find a way to make it up with all my fans who bought tickets for the show.

Liebe Fans,
ich bin sehr traurig dafür, was beim Marina-Club in Bahrain letzten Mittwoch geschah.
